(Don’t) Shake That Booty!

by Subomi Plumptre

I watch music videos at the salon. Until a few weeks ago, I hadn’t owned a TV in years. Now, any time I watch those videos, I realise just how much I have NOT missed, with the booty shaking and all.

If you watch music visual interpretations regularly, you will be excused for believing sex is the most important thing in the world. If you’re not having sex, thinking about having sex or scheming to have sex, there must be something wrong with you.

I believe there’s a sliver of the universe where that may be true. But for those who live on the other side of that universe, the opposite is real. We have other things in our world like money and jobs; family and friends.

Sex is not the only narrative we know; the sole plot point. So forgive us if we get really irritated when another video vixen shakes her booty in yet another music video.
