I have a diverse network, thanks to social media. I know incredible people that I first met online. Some of them are accomplished investors.
There’s a gentleman who’s focused on venture funding in the renewable energy sector. My eyes glaze over when he goes on and on about turbines, solar panels and the projects he’s working on in Brazil. Venture funding is clearly not my area of strength. But one day, he told me his revenue projections and my eyes popped at the numbers. I have now taken venture funding more seriously.
Another lady only talks farming. She runs a couple of farms in Northern Nigeria and exports commodities to other African countries. Another gentleman is a cryptocurrency guru. He’s always promoting one Initial Coin Offering or the other. Finally, there’s a gentleman who runs a real estate company. His passion is virgin land and estate development.
Hanging out with these obviously wealthy and successful people focused my investment philosophy this year. These guys are not “hustlers”. They are not into any and every thing. They have found sectors they understand and have mastered them. More importantly, they have spent years building the human networks that allow them to access cheap funding and get first crack at financially viable projects. They are not investment greedy.
This year, I decided to focus on no more than three investment sectors. My goal is to eventually master at least one. This has freed up considerable time and head space.
If you could choose just one investment area that you wanted to learn well (and hopefully excel at), what would it be? Maybe my video & WhatsApp Course can help.
