Sometimes things happen that make your life stop. Although people may feel sorry for you and even empathise; eventually they move on with their lives. You’re left alone to deal with the constant fear and misery. Nobody plans for catastrophe.
I think the essence of giving and compassion is the ability to stop your life to acknowledge the lives of others. It’s your way of saying, “I see you. I acknowledge your pain. I’m here to help. Here’s my contribution to lessen the load.”
We really can’t change people’s situations all the time. We may not be the agent of their deliverance. But we can stop every once in a while to really see the people around us and to recognise their pain.
