Ebeano, Madam Sabi & SupermartNG: A Review

ecommerce

I tried online grocery shopping today. Although I’ve never bought food online before, today was the day I would do so.

I started with Prince Ebeano’s online store. I do my in-store grocery shopping at Ebeano and they have been promoting a delivery service for a while. I got to the website and there was no shopping cart, payment portal or phone number. The website only had an instruction to upload my shopping list as a document. I left. It is impossible to have an online store without a shopping cart.

I then proceeded to Madam Sabi, an online food store. I gleefully loaded my shopping cart with Orobo Chicken which I instructed them to wash & cut into a specific number of pieces. I then bought tomatoes, pepper, tatashe and onions which I asked to be washed and blended individually. I moved to checkout only to discover that the Webpay link wasn’t working. I eventually chose the cash on delivery option. I called to ensure that my order was received as the status was pending in my profile. They confirmed receipt and gave me a bank account to pay into. They called 4x to ensure I received the account number. Hmm…at least they are adept at chasing up their payments. I later saw a Quickteller and virtual wallet option hidden at the bottom of the homepage. This should be made more prominent. Madam Sabi eventually delivered my items to my home. Everything was as it should be and properly washed and packaged. They arrived a little late but sent a text when they were on the way. They also included a little gift for their first time user.

My last destination was SupermartNG. I signed up and was given N2,000 credit to spend on the site. Super! I love freebies! I checked that they had contact lens solution, which I thought would be the most difficult item to find on my list. Great, they had it. Then I checked for caffeinated Nescafe Gold Blend. No show. Only decaf was available. Coffee was the deal breaker. If I shopped for my other items online, I would still need to a physical store to get coffee. So, I left to go to a physical store.
