A Flaw in Religion

A flaw in “religion”, is it seems to be designed for what people hope to be. It focuses on ideals, transformation and change. But, it appears to do a terrible job of dealing with people’s current realities and their every day struggles. Too many times, faith is used as a talisman to escape life. Thus, religion grapples with contemporaneous issues and shifting cultural dynamics.

In my relationship with God, we spend more time talking about the present than the future. God points out changes yes, but within the context of a conversation he’s having with me now. He never puts me under pressure to transform. Instead, he quietly and efficiently does the heavy lifting. God reasons with me and takes me through a process.

I can’t seem to relate with a fearsome God that constantly demands improvement. The only God I’ve known is a Father. Fathers don’t expect their children to purchase approval with performance.
